The ACDP and other parties have petitioned the President not to sign the Electoral Matters Amendment Bill into law, as this greedy ANC move poses a grave threat to our multi-party democracy.

In its current form, the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill (BELA Bill) has largely been rejected by the majority of South Africans which includes parents, religious bodies, civil society, community leaders, home-schoolers and school governing bodies, as well as various other organisations.

The world does not need more wars, but peace.

National government has no plan to fund the implementation of the BELA Bill. Should the bill pass into law the Western Cape Government will have to budget for an additional amount of R2 billion per annum.

The resignation of the Speaker of Parliament, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is welcomed. It would, however, have been more appropriate for the Speaker to resign as soon as credible accusations were made against her.

We must advocate for peace with truth and demand accountability from those who use violence as a tool. As Christians we must contend for the principles of our faith and stand for our beliefs. Politically we must champion the principles that will end conflict by positive engagement with all communities and by active listening.

The acronym ‘S.O.S’ is generally known as a distress signal, a call for help. The ACDP has heard the S.O.S from the people of South Africa! They want SERVICE, ORDER, and SAFETY!

The ACDP believes that the only long-term solution to South Africa’s debt spiral is a rejuvenated economy, premised upon stable energy provision and a vastly improved logistics network.

Universities should encourage healthy debate and allow freedom of expression rather than suppress it. The South African democratic dispensation in which we live today was realised by those courageous enough to stand on their convictions.

Following an outcry about vetting of church and other leaders, the General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill was amended to remove direct references to vetting such leaders. However, the broad definition of “persons or institutions of national security interest” still includes religious organisations and their employees, and this is a concern.
