ACDP strongly condemns attacks by Hamas on Israel

Oct 7, 2023

ACDP President, Rev Kenneth Meshoe MP, expresses shock at the unprovoked attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians:

“The ACDP is shocked at today’s unprovoked rocket and land attacks by Hamas against Israel, which has resulted in the deaths of at least 100 Israelis, with more than 900 Israelis injured (with the numbers expected to increase). Thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza at Israeli towns and several towns were infiltrated and attacked by Hamas.

The ACDP condemns these unprovoked attacks in the strongest possible terms that has led to the loss of many lives, including that of innocent civilians. Israel has a right to defend itself and must do everything in its power to defend itself and protect its civilians from such indiscriminate and violent attacks.

While the situation is still unfolding, we are deeply concerned about reports that many Israeli civilians have been taken hostage by Hamas. We call on South African and world leaders to condemn these attacks, and to demand that all Israeli hostages are immediately released.

What makes these attacks even more deplorable is that they took place on Simchat Torah, the last of the high holy days when Israelis were at rest for the Shabbat. These attacks come on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 war when Israel was also attacked on Yom Kippur, the holiest day.

The ACDP stands unequivocally in support of Israel and the Jewish people at this critical time.

Lastly, we call on all South Africans to pray for the innocent victims and their families, and to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem”.
