Statement by ACDP President, Rev KRJ Meshoe MP

Issued by the African Christian Democratic Party

Investigate allegations of police corruption with integrity and impartially

Jul 8, 2025

The African Christian Democratic Party is very concerned about the outlook of South Africa’s future if corruption is not rooted out of the South African Police Service, particularly the division of Crime Intelligence. For our nation to have foreign criminals collaborating with police officers, and detectives who are part of the intelligence division, is disturbing and demands immediate attention, and more importantly action, from the State President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa. Whilst we are aware that many South Africans do not trust the President of the country, how he chooses to deal with the allegations raised by Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi will either improve his public image as a person claiming to fight corruption, or destroy it.

The ACDP agrees with many South Africans that those who were implicated and exposed by Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi, including the Minister of Police for allegedly protecting drug dealers and other criminals, have to be suspended with immediate effect while the matter is investigated. Allegations that drug dealers from South America control some of our police to carry out their drug trade in our country, is very worrying and must be handled with all seriousness. We cannot be a country that is ruled by foreign forces and criminals. This undermines not only our leadership but also our sovereignty. As a result of this, our people have less trust in our leadership and do not take their government seriously.

The ACDP calls for this matter to be investigated by an impartial body of experts that will include civilians of utmost integrity, and led by a credible retired Judge. This will ensure that no stone is left unturned and that all cases of corruption are rooted out. We especially do not want IPID to form part of or lead such an investigation in which they might be implicated.

On behalf of the ACDP, and all peace loving South Africans, I want to request special prayers for the protection of Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi, and his family, from all harm. We salute him for his bravery, and we call on government to do more in ensuring his protection, including that of all brave men and women who speak out and blow the whistle on corruption.

Lastly, the ACDP calls on President Ramaphosa to protect his public image by suspending and ultimately removing those found guilty from the Police Service. He must leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice is done in the Police Service.
