Steenhuisen’s false statements regarding the ACDP’s position on his ‘Moonshot Pact’ disappointing

Apr 15, 2023

The ACDP notes with disappointment false statements that were made by DA leader, Mr John Steenhuisen about the ACDP’s position on his proposed ‘Moonshot Pact’ to avoid an ANC-EFF coalition next year.

For Mr Steenhuisen to allege, in public, that the ACDP rejected his plea for cooperation is misleading and a lie. The ACDP is already cooperating with the DA in some municipalities. The ACDP rejects Mr Steenhuisen’s plea to endorse his unilateral decision to impose this Moonshot Pact against the ANC/EFF possible coalition, and his big brother attitude.

The ACDP believes that if Mr Steenhuisen needed cooperation from other opposition parties, he should have first consulted them, and asked for their opinion, before announcing plans on his proposed Moonshot Pact at the DA’s elective conference.

The fact is that the ACDP and most opposition parties do not want the ANC to rule this country again. The ANC has looted resources, failed to tackle corruption, and maintain infrastructure, and have allowed for law and order to collapse in our country.

Furthermore, the ACDP does not appreciate Mr Steenhuisen’s use of the word “enemy” when referring to the EFF as public enemy No 1, given the history of political violence in this country. Thousands of innocent people who were labelled public enemies were killed during political violence, and we don’t want a repeat of that going towards elections.

Based on mutual respect, the ACDP will cooperate with any likeminded political party that wants to stop the ANC and EFF from winning next year’s elections.
