ACDP congratulates Matric Class of 2024

Jan 14, 2025

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) proudly acknowledges the remarkable efforts of all candidates who successfully sat for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams. They have made their families, teachers, and communities extremely proud.

The ACDP extends heartfelt congratulations to the Matric Class of 2024 for achieving an impressive national pass rate of 87.3%, up from 82.9% produced by the Class of 2023. In 2024, over 614 000 learners successfully passed the NSC, with 47.8% achieving admission of a bachelor pass, 26.8% for a diploma pass, and 12.7% for a higher certificate pass. This outstanding accomplishment is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

We especially wants to recognise the significant contribution of no-fee and rural schools who played a crucial role in improving the overall performance of the Class of 2024. No-fee schools improved their pass rate from 81% in 2023 to 85.5% in 2024. This success strengthens the ACDP’s resolve to fight against the closure of small rural schools by the Department of Basic Education (DBE).

We acknowledge that the performance of the Class of 2024 comes despite the many challenges we face as a nation, with high unemployment and an economy that struggles to grow.

The ACDP wishes to remind those who unfortunately did not pass their final exams that their worth is not solely defined by their achievements, and that this result does not reflect the entirety of their potential.

We also wish to extend our appreciation to our teachers, parents, caregivers, significant others and officials who have supported our matriculants in 2024.

Cut poor-performing education programmes such as CSE

Madam Deputy Speaker, the Department of Basic Education received a staggering R32 billion in its budget. It is taxpayers who ultimately paid for this amount, but, are they receiving value for their money? We submit not, given the low rates of literacy, the low rates...
