Speech by ACDP MP, Steve Swart

Parliament has been subjected to disruptions by the EFF for almost 10 years

Feb 29, 2024

House Chair,

The ACDP will support this report. It is important to note that it has been almost 10 years that Parliament has been subjected to disruptions by the EFF. And yes, continuous actions have been taken and today’s action is the result of another misconduct that took place in the House.

I think it is very important again to stress that the committee dealing with this disciplinary action is a multi-party committee. It is not, as the assertions have been made, that it is the majority party that is going after certain members. All of us at Parliament have been subjected to these disruptions, where we’ve wanted to hear the President answer questions, or when we’ve wanted to participate in debates, but due to these disruptions, that right has been denied to all of us.

A very strong message must be sent that no longer will disruptions be tolerated, and the best place to affect Members of Parliament is in their pocket. Therefore, the ACDP supports this report.

I thank you.
