The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) congratulates the Matric Class of 2023 on their outstanding performance in achieving an 82,9% pass rate. They have done their families, teachers, and communities proud.
We especially want to recognise the outstanding contribution of 60% to the bachelor pass rate by no-fee schools.
Our rural schools have contributed to the improvement in the overall performance of the class of 2023. This gives the ACDP more impetus to fight against the closure of our rural small schools by the Department of Basic Education (DBE).
It would be interesting to do an analysis of the results of our rural schools in light of the merger and closure of small schools. It is our view that this action by the DBE threatens the future of our rural communities, especially our farming communities.
The overall results are testament to the incredible sacrifices and commitment of our unsung heroes – our teachers, parents, and caregivers. Every child who completes his or her schooling does so because there is an army behind them. Many a time that army is a single mother or a grandparent who assists a child or children from a disadvantaged background to help them beat the odds!
The performance of the class of 2023 comes in spite of the many challenges we face as a nation.
To our learners who did not pass their exams, the ACDP wants to encourage, and remind them that their worth is not in their achievements alone, but also in their humanity.
There will be another opportunity to write the exams in February, and we encourage them to use this opportunity by visiting their local district department offices.
It is not how many times we fall that counts, but how many times we get back up.
